Building a Skilled Workforce for Ghana’s Electric Future
Ghana is taking a major step forward in cultivating a talent pipeline for electric vehicles (EVs) through an initiative led by EV House LTD. As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, the company recently organized an educational and hands-on training session at the Accra Technical Training Center (ATTC). The event brought together selected students, staff technicians, and academic leaders, including Mr. Arko Domotey, the Principal of ATTC.
The highlight of the session was a presentation delivered by Mr. Edward Hightower, founder and CEO of EV House LTD. He provided participants with an in-depth understanding of the key systems that make up modern electric vehicles and how they differ from traditional petrol or diesel models. Using the Geely Geome Panda Mini, which is currently the most accessible EV in Ghana, as a practical teaching tool, Mr. Hightower guided students through the vehicle's structure and functionality.
His session covered essential components of vehicle architecture, often referred to as vehicle partitions or major subsystems. These included the powertrain, chassis, thermal management, interior and safety systems, exterior design, body structure, electrical systems, and electronics. By allowing students and technicians to physically interact with the Panda Mini, the session transformed theoretical knowledge into tangible experience.
In addition to the Panda Mini, EV House also offers the Geely Riddara RD6 all-electric pickup, which is considered the most functional EV available in the country. This variety of models provides a broader perspective on the capabilities and applications of electric vehicles in different sectors.
As the global automotive industry shifts from internal combustion engines to electric propulsion, the training session underscored the crucial role that local institutions like ATTC can play in developing a skilled workforce to support this transformation. It also emphasized the importance of introducing students and technical staff to EV technology at an early stage.
Mr. Edward Hightower expressed his commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers, technicians, and innovators who will shape Ghana’s future in clean energy transportation. “By bringing the Panda Mini into the workshop, we’re helping bridge the gap between theory and practice,” he said.
This event marks the start of what is expected to be a long-term collaboration between EV House LTD and ATTC. Future plans include advanced technical workshops, internships, and curriculum development focused on electric mobility. These initiatives aim to build a comprehensive and sustainable ecosystem for electric vehicles in Ghana.
Mr. Arko Domotey, Principal of ATTC, praised the partnership with EV House LTD and highlighted the significance of exposing students to emerging technologies. “We are proud to host this initiative and grateful for the opportunity to align our training with the future of mobility. Programs like this equip our students with the relevant skills to thrive in the evolving automotive industry,” he said.
Through education, innovation, and local expertise, EV House LTD and ATTC are working together to create a sustainable and skilled EV ecosystem in Ghana. Their combined efforts are setting the foundation for a cleaner, more efficient transportation sector that can meet the demands of the future.
EV House LTD was established with the vision of expanding the market for premium electric cars and pickup trucks in Ghana, focusing primarily on business and government fleets. This initiative reflects the company’s broader goal of contributing to a greener and more technologically advanced transportation landscape.
