In honor of their 80th anniversary, the St. Nicholas Branch of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada has released a new cookbook. Cooking Within Our Means It's an excellent title for our current era and filled with delicious recipes contributed by chapter members, local enterprises, and renowned Winnipeg residents.
Mayor Scott Gillingham shares his take on a Hash Brown Casserole. Ex-NDP MP Judy Wasylycia-Leis has added multiple recipes such as a Tangy Mustard Cauliflower that I'm eager to sample.
The cookbook costs only $15, and every cent goes directly to supporting the branch and its numerous initiatives within the community. You can find these cookbooks currently at three locations: Galarnyk Insurance located at 696 McGregor Street, Petals Flowers situated at 640 Leila Avenue, and Neumann’s Market found at 2956 Henderson Highway. Additionally, they will be available for purchase next Monday during the Sinclair Park Community Centre's Spring Craft & Garage Sale held at 490 Sinclair Street. You can additionally send an email to Robert Erstelle. coltsp2015@gmail.com .
When discussing cookbooks, one activity I particularly enjoy is flipping through vintage editions. Each summer at the lake, I frequently visit yard sales to acquire as many as possible. These treasures come at low prices and are brimming with excellent recipes. My favorites tend to be those from times when they were incredibly trendy but have since fallen out of favor. Enjoy your culinary adventures!
BEST OUTDOOR DINING
Only one Winnipeg eatery has been included in a recent nationwide listing of top spots for outdoor dining. The sole local terrace to be recognized on OpenTable’s yearly Top 100 Restaurants for Outdoor Dining is Cibo Waterfront Cafe. According to OpenTable, when the climate is pleasant, approximately 60 percent of Canadians favor eating outdoors.
STAMPEDE MENU RELEASED
The Calgary Stampede won’t kick off until early July, but the festival’s food lineup has already been revealed. Over 50 innovative midway treats have been added this year. The menu features an array of pickled flavors along with dishes designed for daring eaters. Highlights include spicy dill Coca-Cola, fried pickle Oreo cookies, and twisted tzatziki-pickles. Other notable items are Mopane worm (emperor moth) poutine, a bao bun stuffed with Spam and garlic shrimp, Nashville-style hot chicken mac and cheese, and a lobster tornado roll.
MOST ORDERED FOOD
Unsurprisingly, pizza stands out as the most frequently requested cuisine in North America. According to an analysis conducted by Statista using current statistics, 29% of individuals report that pizza is their go-to choice for orders most often. An alternate survey indicates that 28% of respondents have pizza at least once every week. Furthermore, about 10% indulge in this dish multiple times per week.
WHOPPER OF A LAWSUIT
Burger King is dealing with a false advertising lawsuit regarding the size of its Whopper. Nineteen customers from 13 different states have joined together to sue the fast-food chain, alleging that both the burger and other menu offerings contain about 35% less meat than depicted in advertisements. Burger King has attempted to get the case dismissed; however, this request was denied by a judge in Florida. The corporation maintains that the beef patties shown in their promotional materials match exactly those provided in every one of the millions of burgers sold throughout the United States.
OUTFIT MADE OF NAPKINS
Arby's is offering an ensemble crafted from linen napkins. The fast-food company has introduced a white collared shirt paired with coordinating trousers priced at $85. This launch coincides with the introduction of a new range of barbecue sandwiches at their U.S. outlets. The 13 Hour Drip Fit is currently available until stocks run out at participating stores. 13HrDripFit.com .
